“The most wonderful holiday we've had. Beats the
Maldives hands down. A wonderful holiday for all country lovers
with very special fishing...”
....Barry & Anne
It is our intention to continue to improve
the lake and its’ surroundings each year, while maintaining the charm
of the “wild” side of the countryside.
We have already begun to plant water plants which
will again benefit the condition of the carp as well as encouraging them
to visit the marginal lilly beds in search of their dinner. We are continuing
to regularly add a diversity of aquatic life in the form of snails, shrimps
and slaters etc. as each of these provides a source of live protein for
the fish. The quantity of cadis larvae in the lake this spring, had to
be seen to be believed.
Our policy will never be to overstock and we will
always maintain a biomass, which allows maximum growth rates. Etang du
Roivre and its’ fish will be maintained as a traditional style carp fishery
so that, as far as possible, each fish hooked puts up a memorable battle,
right to the net. The existing originals are already famous for their
strength and we have experienced several fights of over one hour. We are
determined to maintain this even if it means regularly draining the lake
to remove the small fish as indeed we have already done in October 2002,
November 2004, December 2005 and again in November 2007. This also allows us to accurately
monitor and control the biomass.
During October 2002 we carried out some major excavation
works to the end of the Eastern arm in order to improve the depths and
to create fishable features where none previously existed. This was so
successful that we now intend to carry out similar work to the end of
the Southern arm. However, this will only be started when we are happy
that there no urgent work needed to improve the existing lake. We will
also take our time to ensure that the final “design” for the work enhances
Etang du Roivre.
